In this video, forecaster Jack Sillin explains how to use our exclusive lightning analysis product that maps lightning strikes down to street level!
Hi.
Is the paid version of lightning analysis app has the following features:
1. Lightning data 1 day ago, 1 month ago or a year ago are still accessible? I am interested in the lightning flash density for a particular location for a particular period of time.
Hi there.
The Lightning Analysis only goes back two days time total. So with the paid version, you can access the last two days of data, but that’s all that’s kept in the database.
Hope that helps!
Hi Jack,
I couldn’t find anything on the technology which acquires the data on the lightning measurements. How are these measured and quantified and then displayed on the map,
Thanks in advance for your help,
Mark
Hi Mark,
While I can’t go into super detailed specifics about where our lightning data comes from and how exactly it’s calculated, I can point you to this resource for the National Lightning Detection Network which gives some insight into the sensor network used to produce these maps: https://www.vaisala.com/sites/default/files/documents/MET-G-NLDN-Brochure-B210412EN-E_Low.pdf hopefully that is helpful!
Best,
Jack
Thanks, Jack very cool. We have many thunderstorms so I will use this tool.
