Tropical Cyclones 101: Glossary Of Common Terms
Hello everyone!
With Hurricane Season now in full swing, I figured it would be helpful to add a resource to the tropical cyclones 101 series that takes a brief look at commonly-used terms rather than diving deep into key concepts. This post, which I will add to/update as the season goes on, will contain brief explanations for terms that are commonly used in my blog discussions and on twitter. The summaries here aren’t meant to explore all the nuances of a given topic, just to bring you up to speed on the basics. If there’s a term that you’re unsure about, please email me (jack@weather.us) or send me a note on twitter.
The current terms, in the order they are presented here, are:
-LLC
-ULAC
-AEW
-SST
-MJO
-CCKW
-Wind Shear
-Vortmax
-CDO
-PVS/TUTT/ULL
-DMAX/DMIN
